Find Your Perfect White T-Shirt: A Fit Guide from Burg & Schild

The white T-shirt: sounds simple, right? But anyone who's ever hunted for the right one knows – it's anything but. Whether you're after a rugged heavyweight or a refined classic, finding the right fit makes all the difference.

That’s why we’ve pulled together five of the best white tees in the game that we proudly carry from Whitesville, The Real McCoy’s, Warehouse, Velva Sheen, and Wonder Looper. Let’s break down each option so you can find your perfect match.

Each T-shirt is produced with the traditional technique of ‘loopwheeling’ (except for Wonder Looper, but we’ll get to that later), meaning that the fabric is knitted in a slow, tubular fashion. No side seams, no weak spots, built to last.

Whitesville – classic, slim, cult-favorite

This tee’s been getting a lot of love lately, especially thanks to a certain chef in The Bear.

But hype aside, it earns its spot for one simple reason: it’s just that good.

Originally an American brand from the 1950’s, Whitesville was revived by Toyo Enterprise in Japan to bring back that classic athletic look, with all the details dialed in.

Fit

The Whitesville WV73544 T-Shirt is the slimmest of the five. It’s built to hold shape without feeling stiff, making it perfect for layering or wearing solo. A slight taper through the torso keeps it sharp, while the shoulders offer just enough room for broader frames. The crew neck sits high and relatively snug, giving it that clean, athletic finish. Works best on slim to medium builds – just not the best pick if you’re stockier.

Fabric

Soft, smooth, and seamless, which makes for an even texture throughout. With its 7 oz, it’s a true midweight tee: heavier than your average T-shirt, but still breathable enough for year-round wear. At just 89,95€ for a two-pack, it’s hands down the best value in the lineup.

Color: Pure white

Shrinkage: 1-2 cm after first wash (30°C), mostly in length. Go up one size.

The Real McCoy’s – versatile, straight fit

The MC20000 T-Shirt from The Real McCoy’s is a masterclass in vintage precision. What sets the brand apart is their near-obsessive commitment to recreating the garments exactly as they were, down to the cotton fiber, threat gauge, and construction methods. This tee lives up to that reputation, built with authenticity and durability in mind.

Fit

The MC20000 has a straight cut closer to the body without being tight. The reinforced, ribbed neck sits comfortably and keeps it shape, adding a vintage finish straight out of the 1940-1950’s playbook. With its tailored feel that doesn’t crop in length, it’s the most versatile tee in the line-up.

Fabric

7.5 oz loopwheeled cotton with a dense, dry texture. You’ll notice the weight when you put it on – but also the comfort. It’s designed to withstand repeated wear and is perfect for cooler days.

Color: Pure white
Shrinkage: None to minimal at 30°C washing.

Warehouse & Co. – slubby and relaxed

If you’re after a tee with instant character, Warehouse & Co. delivers. The Lot 4601 Round Neck T-Shirt channels 1940’s-60’s athletic wear, elevated by its signature texture and relaxed feel. And then there’s the brand. As part of the Osaka Five, Warehouse helped to shape the vintage-reproduction movement in Japan and beyond. This has labeled them as one of the most respected names in Japanese Americana.

Warehouse Lot 4601 White T-shirt

Fit

Boxy, breathable, and built for comfort. The 4601 brings a laid-back, vintage silhouette with more room through the chest and shoulders. The neckline sits high and snug, adding a bit of structure to the otherwise easy fit. Slightly cropped with a soft drape, it’s the most casual of the five.

Fabric

Woven with custom-spun yarns that give it an uneven, slubby surface and that broken-in feel straight out of the box. 6.5 oz – so slightly lighter than others here – but with surprising durability. Throw it on, walk out the door.

Color: Off-white
Shrinkage: 2-3 cm after first wash at 30°C washing.

Velva Sheen – standard and timeless

If you’re after that classic 1950’s white tee look, tucked in or just loose, this is it. Born in Ohio in the 1930s, Velva Sheen was a key supplier of athletic garments for the U.S. military back in the day. Now produced in Japan, their tees keep that history alive, making Velva Sheen a true and timeless brand.

Velva Sheen Heavy Crew Neck White T-Shirt (2-pack)

Fit

A true standard fit, similar to the The Real McCoy’s, but with a softer structure and an off-white color. The Heavy Crew Neck T-Shirt is fitted through the shoulders, slightly snug in the arms, and with a comfortable neck that sits close but not tight. With almost no shrinkage, it retains some length for tucking, making it perfect for sporting a clean 50’s James Dean look.

Fabric

This tee has a dry and tightly-knit surface. It is crafted to feel substantial but not overly stiff, giving it a smoother feel compared to the more textured Warehouse. At almost 8 oz, it leans into the heavyweight category, but without the bulkiness associated with denser tees.

Color: Off-white

Shrinkage: None to minimal at 30°C washing.

Wonder Looper – heavy and rugged

This is where things get heavy. At 12.1 oz, Wonder Looper’s Double Heavyweight Crewneck is the densest tee we carry – and maybe the most distinctive. They’re not loopwheeled, but make no mistake: this tee is all about craft. Made in Japan using heavyweight cotton and a minimalist design, it’s modern, rugged, and bold.

Fit

The fit is slightly oversized, offering generous room through the chest, shoulders, and body. The dense fabric doesn’t slouch but gives the tee a square-cut shape, almost like wearing a short-sleeved sweatshirt. The crew neck is wide and sits flat. A natural pick for anyone after a relaxed, workwear-inspired fit, whether it’s with wide denim or under heavy outerwear.

Fabric

It has a dry and slightly coarse surface that speaks to its 12.1 oz raw durability. The knit is tight and stable, making it ideal for transitional weather or layering under a jacket. Or just for guys who like a bit of bulk.

Color: Pure white

Shrinkage: None to minimal at 30°C washing.
