Converse was originally founded as a manufacturer of rubber boots in 1908, and enjoyed moderate success before discovering basketball. The company would soon make its mark as „America’s Original Sport Brand“ by developing one of the first dedicated basketball shoes with player and Converse salesman Chuck Taylor: The famous Chuck Taylor All Star. By the 1960’s, the majority of professional basketball players wore Chuck Taylors and the shoe emerged as a symbol of rebellion and individuality in various sub-cultures. For decades now, the Chuck Taylor has been worn by artists, icons, rebels and archetypes, elevating the shoe to cult status.
