The history of the "Brown's Beach Jacket" goes back over a century, to 1901, when the first products were manufactured in Worcester, Massachusetts. They were made for general outdoor use from a fabric called "Beach Cloth," which featured a special combination of a warm wool fleece lining and a knitted, water-resistant cotton surface. Brown's Beach products were designed with the goal of providing functionality and durability for the harsh Northeast winters.

By using yarns with different thread counts in two different colors and twisting them into a twill weave, a salt and pepper look is created on the front of the fabric.
