Warehouse's Lot 1231 New Deal Programs Denim Trousers are based on 1930s workpants designed for a special program during the Great Depression.
In the 1930s, President Roosevelt founded organizations such as the CCC and WPA to combat unemployment. The CCC inspired young people to join the military and to enjoy nature, while the WPA was aimed at unemployed workers.
The clothes were made in sewing rooms and were labeled "WPA SEWING ROOMS, NOT TO BE SOLD." The seamstresses took pride in what they did, interpreting the initials "WPA" as "We Patch Anything." They repaired old clothes and also sewed new ones for the poor and the workers of the WPA program.
The WPA clothing was similar in design to the soldiers' clothing, with slight variations.
