It was developed by cotton breeder Sally Fox, who began selectively breeding naturally pigmented varieties in the 1980s to eliminate the need for dyeing. The green variety is considered particularly difficult: it produces shorter fibers, lower yields, and is challenging to spin evenly. The cotton is grown in the USA and spun in Osaka.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe 13 oz Japanese selvedge denim is made of 100% organic cotton. The warp is rope-dyed in indigo, while the weft has been treated with iron. Instead of applying a dye, the iron reacts with the fiber's natural pigments, deepening them into an earthy greenish-gray.
