Manchester 1937 – John and Isaac Miller set out to design outerwear that would be stylish and protect against the British weather. With this basic idea in mind, the brothers discovered a major shortcoming in golf. Bulky clothing hindered players and robbed them of the freedom of movement they needed in wind and weather. The world's most classic and recognizable jacket was born: the Harrington Jacket. Beyond sport, it has established itself in everyday wardrobes since the 1950s and has become part of the "uniform" of British subcultures such as mods and skinheads. Appearances in Hollywood films and stylish wearers such as Steve McQueen and Frank Sinatra helped it achieve its well-deserved cult status.
