SUN SURF – the epitome of the Hawaiian shirt! The brand pays homage to the legendary rayon aloha shirts from the golden era between the 1930s and 1950s. Since its founding in the 1970s, SUN SURF has collected and analyzed countless vintage shirts to create authentic replicas – with great success!

This work portrays Uoei, an important wholesaler of illustrated books active in the late Edo period. He published numerous Nishikie prints by famous artists such as Utagawa Hiroshige, Hiroshige II, and Toyokuni III, the creator of this artwork.

Utagawa Kunisada, known as Toyokuni III, was born in Edo in 1786 and rose to prominence through his extraordinary portraits of beautiful women and depictions of actors. With over 10,000 works, he left behind the most extensive oeuvre of any ukiyo-e artist of his time.
