The "14 oz. Brown Warp Selvedge Relaxed Tapered" demonstrates once again how consistently Pure Blue Japan follows its own path. For this denim, the brand completely forgoes indigo and instead dyes the warp yarns with sulfur dye in a warm brown tone.

The 14oz fabric is slowly woven on vintage shuttle looms and bears the signature of Pure Blue Japan: a highly textured, slubby yarn pattern. During spinning, the yarn thickness is intentionally kept irregular – thicker sections alternate with thinner areas. These thickenings remain visible in the fabric and create the distinctive vertical structures and streaky surface that make PBJ denim so characteristic.

The result is a denim with great depth and a very vibrant texture. The brown-dyed sulfur warp yarns create different shades of brown in the fabric, which break down and gradually lighten over time. This develops a unique patina with wear – more subtle than indigo, but with just as much character.
