The "1955 501 Jean Rigid" by Levi's Vintage Clothing represents the 501 of post-war America and its connection to the emerging biker culture. Compared to earlier 501 models, it fits looser at the seat and features a wider leg and an overall squarer silhouette. This so-called "anti-fit" became a characteristic feature of the 501 of that era.
The jeans are made from a specially reconstructed selvedge denim, which Levi's developed together with a Japanese weaving mill based on historical models from the 1950s. The Rigid version is made of 100% cotton and comes unwashed. The denim shrinks by about ten percent during the first wash and thus adapts to the body over time. The current LVC version uses organically grown cotton.
The construction remains true to the historical model: belt loops are the only adjustment at the waistband, the back pockets are reinforced with concealed copper rivets, and the button fly is made with zinc buttons. In addition, there is the classic five-pocket construction and the Two-Horse patch on the waistband. The combination of a loose fit, strong selvedge denim, and reduced construction makes the 1955 a characteristic further development of the 501 within the 1950s.
