In the 1960s, the US Navy introduced the A-2 deck jacket as a further development of the N-1, which was specifically designed for working on deck. The jacket was available in two versions: the first model from 1962 was made of back satin, the second version from 1964 of jungle cloth.

Characteristic of these early models is the triangular pocket flap on the chest, which became rectangular in later models. Another special detail are the brown sleeve cuffs, knitted from wool in accordance with the original design, which were used in the version made of Jungle Cloth.
