The " BR15741 B-15B Test Sample by Buzz Rickson's is a reconstruction of those test jackets that were created in the 1940s in the vicinity of the Aero Medical Laboratory – where the US Air Force had new equipment thoroughly tested under real operational conditions.
Pilots were issued such prototypes for a limited time, wore them in everyday life, and reported any weaknesses. Only after several rounds of wearing, adjusting, and retesting was it decided which details would be incorporated into the production models. Buzz Rickson's meticulously replicates precisely this intermediate stage: a jacket that wasn't yet "final," but rather still in the midst of the development process.
The jacket is characterized by its material mix of rayon and cotton – a fabric that was being tested at the time and was intended to provide better freedom of movement and a lighter overall weight. The typical variations of a test sample were also retained: minor differences in the cut, differently placed details, and a label that clearly indicates what the jacket was – a functional test, not a finished product.
A B-15B that captures the spirit of the early test programs: technical, raw, and full of insight into the development work behind the classic Flight Jackets.
