The "Canoeist Ventile" jacket from Hawkwood Mercantile is inspired by a true piece of British military history: the original Special Boat Service smock from the 1960s. Designed for the Royal Navy's toughest missions – canoeing, covert operations, and the worst weather. Founded during World War II, the unit is still active today and is considered the maritime equivalent of the SAS.
Like the original, this version is made of Ventile® – a fabric used by the British military for decades in extreme conditions. Tightly woven, completely uncoated, yet wind and water-resistant. And so breathable that it remains the benchmark for natural weatherproof fabrics to this day.
Add to that thoughtful details: an adjustable hood, large pockets, weatherproof zips, and sturdy snap fasteners. Everything fits perfectly and stays put. Classic cut, plenty of freedom of movement, and all-around weatherproof.
Each piece is crafted exclusively for Burg & Schild in the company's own Hawkwood Mercantile factory, using materials and expertise from the UK, carefully combined to ensure durability and genuine character.
