The "Headlight 10oz. Random HBT Work Vest" from Sugar Cane is part of the Headlight collection – a line that reinterprets the workwear of the historic US brand.

The starting point was a rare original from the 1930s and 40s: an unworn deadstock all-in-one, whose fabric was analyzed in detail. For this vest, a unique herringbone twill with irregularly running ridges was created from it. Not a clean, even herringbone, but a fabric with movement, depth, and precisely the slight unevenness that often makes old fabrics so interesting.

The cut is also unusual. The template was a rare vest with attached sleeves – a hybrid form that only appeared sporadically at the time. In addition, a post-war variant with five buttons and flap pockets serves as the basis here.

Headlight itself was a brand of Learned Carter & Co. and existed from the early 20th century until the 1960s. It became known for robust workwear produced in-house – from woven fabric to finished garment. Headlight was primarily worn by railroad workers, workshop personnel, and machinists.
