Each pair bears the mark of patience, respect, and craftsmanship – from sourcing the hides to crafting the shoes. Monkey Boots are a classic, mid-height boot, originally designed for rugged work and outdoor use. They combine stability, flexibility, and protection, with Goodyear welting, Vibram soles, and Japanese steel shanks for maximum durability.

The hides come exclusively from bears that died of natural causes in the wild. In this way, John Lofgren combines ethical responsibility with a deep connection to nature. The leather is robust, vibrant, and develops a unique patina over time.

For the Ainu, the indigenous peoples of Hokkaido, the Ezo bear holds deep spiritual significance. As Kimun Kamuy, the mountain god, it is considered a protector and provider, and its meat and leather are treated with respect as gifts of nature.
