Since the 1970s, the brand has been producing faithful replicas of classic rayon aloha shirts from the 1930s to the 1950s – based on historical models that have been meticulously collected and analyzed.

This special edition is titled Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji ( Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji )—named after a popular 19th-century serial novel that sets the world of The Monogatari of Genji in later eras. The accompanying illustrations are by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi, one of the last great ukiyo-e masters.

It depicts a scene in which the young Ashikaga Mitsuuji seeks refuge in a temple with his lover Tasogare – only to be attacked by Tasogare's mother, masked and transformed into a demon.

Part of the “National Treasure of Japan” series – a tribute to Japanese masterpieces, translated onto the canvas of the Aloha shirt.
