The "MWB1160NY Barbour Ursula Wading Waterproof Jacket Navy" from BARBOUR belongs to the brand's technical waterproof line, which differs from the lighter showerproof series by being truly waterproof rather than merely water-repellent. The name refers to Barbour's origin as an outfitter for fishermen and sailors in northeast England, where the brand began in 1894 with oilskins for use at sea.
The outer material consists of cotton with a laminated polyurethane membrane, thus doing without the wax layer of classic Barbour jackets: The waterproofing is in the membrane, not in the fabric, meaning no re-waxing is necessary. Inside is a polyester lining, the hood and sleeve linings are made of polyamide, and the collar remains cotton. Unlike waxed models, this piece can be machine washed at 30 degrees.
The oversized collar defines the silhouette, along with a roll-away hood, pleated bellows pockets at the lower hem, and a structured front and back yoke.
