The “Weird Guy Kawataro Selvedge” is Naked & Famous’ latest interpretation of their Japanese Heritage Denim – this time in a Greencast version. The name refers to Kawataro, the Japanese river demon Kappa, known for sumo wrestling, trickery, and his fondness for cucumbers.
The fabric: 14.5 oz Japanese selvedge denim, woven with low tension and irregular slub yarns. This creates a rough, uneven texture. The yarns are rope-dyed with indigo. The uneven yarn structure absorbs the indigo to varying degrees. Over time, this creates striking contrasts and a vibrant, three-dimensional fade.
Add to that contrasting stitching, pink selvedge trim, and antique copper rivets and buttons. Jeans that carry the myth in their name – and the craftsmanship in the fabric.
“Weird Guy” features a slim silhouette that fits loosely at the waist and hips and is tapered from the knee down.
Material note: The denim is quite stiff at first – don't worry, after a few washes it will become significantly softer and really comfortable to wear.
