The "0821 15 oz. Ori-Sashi Sashiko Loose Fit One-Wash Jeans" by Omoto Denim incorporates a double-woven Sashiko fabric into a pair of jeans. Sashiko refers to a traditional Japanese stitching technique used to reinforce and insulate simple cotton fabrics with closely spaced, parallel running stitches – especially in colder regions like Tōhoku, where multi-layered, hand-sewn fabrics were intended to protect against cold and wear. In Ori-Sashi Sashiko, the characteristic ribbed surface is not created by hand embroidery, but already during the weaving process: the fabric is double-woven, so that the structure typical of Sashiko is formed directly on the loom, without each layer having to be quilted by hand.
The 15oz heavy fabric is dyed with indigo using the traditional rope-dyeing method, with the core of the yarns intentionally left undyed (Naka-Jiro, "Middle White"). With wear, the outer indigo layer rubs off at the knees, seat, and leg hems, exposing the lighter yarn core – a distinct fading typical of ring-dyed Japanese fabrics of this kind.
