The "Detonator 11.0" 702" by Double Helix is inspired by classic Engineer Boots from the 1930s and 1940s. With its 11-inch shaft, it follows the shaft height that was particularly common in historical work and motorcycle boots. The high shaft protects the lower leg, ensures a secure fit, and shapes the striking silhouette that still characterizes the Engineer Boot today. The 702 last has a slightly more generous toe area, closely mirroring the proportions of early originals.

For the shaft, Double Helix uses Horsebutt Stripe Leather – leather from the rear back and rump area of the horse. Characteristic are the natural, slightly wavy fibers that remain visible as fine stripes in the leather. The pure aniline dyeing preserves this structure and allows the material to develop more depth over time. The inner lining is also made of horsehide, following the consistent material construction of the boot.

The Detonator is made with Goodyear welt construction. This construction permanently connects the upper, welt, and sole, allowing for resoling later on. A sturdy leather insole forms the base inside, while the specially developed rubber sole with cork content complements the traditional construction. Together with the careful craftsmanship, an Engineer Boot is created whose materials and construction are designed to evolve over many years.
