Double Helix's "Detonator 8.0" 902" is inspired by 1930s Engineer Boots. Unlike the more common 10- or 11-inch shaft models, it features a historical 8-inch design that interprets the characteristic construction of the Engineer Boot in a more compact silhouette. The 902 last emphasizes these balanced proportions with a sleeker toe shape.

For the shaft, Double Helix uses Horsebutt Stripe Leather – leather from the hind back and rump area of the horse. Characteristic are the natural, slightly wavy fibers that remain visible as fine stripes in the leather. The pure aniline dyeing preserves this structure and allows the material to develop more depth over time. The inner lining is also made of horsehide, following the consistent material construction of the boot.

The Detonator is manufactured with a Goodyear welt. This construction permanently connects the upper, welt, and sole, allowing for resoling later. A robust leather insole forms the base inside, while the specially developed rubber sole with cork content complements the traditional construction. Together with the careful craftsmanship, an Engineer Boot is created whose materials and construction are designed to evolve over many years.
