The "SC51443 Fiction Romance 9oz. Wabash Stripe Zip Fly Shorts" by Sugar Cane are based on American work pants from the early 1900s. Curved pocket openings, horizontally cut back pockets, and the side tool pocket follow historical examples from a time when workwear was designed for durability and thoughtful construction. As part of the "Fiction Romance" collection, Sugar Cane combines documented details from various originals into an independent interpretation of historical workwear.

The shorts are made from a 9oz heavy cotton Wabash stripe denim. The characteristic dot-stripe pattern originally resulted from a discharge printing process on indigo-dyed denim and was mainly used by railroad and industrial workers in the early 20th century. With wear, the indigo gradually lightens and develops the lively patina for which Wabash denim is known.
