The “Cardinal” bandana from ONE EAR BRAND is handmade in the Japanese prefecture of Kansai.

Designed by Jonathan Lukacek in collaboration with Japanese-American artist Yurika Shikai, the design draws on the aesthetics of classic "Turkey Red" bandanas. This era is known for its remarkable attention to detail: delicate ornamentation, clear symmetry, and strong contrasts. The historical original featured a bird motif at its center, framed by small, feather-like elements.

For “Cardinal,” this motif was reinterpreted. Instead of the original bird, cardinals take center stage—a familiar, easily recognizable symbol. The entire pattern was completely redrawn: not a copy, but an independent translation of the idea, with altered proportions, lines, and details.
