The "Beanie Short" by Andersen-Andersen is inspired by the simple knit caps worn by sailors and fishermen while working on deck: close-fitting to the head, with a wide turn-up and no extra details. At 15 cm high with a 6 cm turn-up, it has a short fit and sits relatively high on the head.
It is knitted from pure new wool from Patagonia, which is sourced exclusively without mulesing. It is cleaned and combed in Italy, a process that removes the short fibers. The remaining long fibers are spun with extra twist. This makes the yarn denser and more resistant, and the hat retains its shape even after long periods of wear. The dyeing also takes place in Italy.
The hat is knitted in a coarse 5-gauge flat knit. The robust stitches block the wind well, and the wool remains warm even if it gets damp – which is why wool was the material of choice at sea for so long.
