THE REAL McCOY'S "MA26010 Black Wabash Newsboy Cap" harks back to a headwear item that first became popular as a golf cap in the late 19th century and quickly became a staple of workwear: newsboys, dockworkers, and craftsmen wore it, as did railway workers, who found it a practical, robust alternative to the flat peaked cap.

The Wabash pattern of the fabric is in the same tradition of American railroad workwear: a fine dot pattern is applied to dark-dyed cotton using a discharge process, in which the color is removed from the fabric in individual areas. This creates the characteristic speckled surface, which differs from a pure print by its uneven structure integrated into the fabric.
