Buzz Rickson's "M-65 Parka" was introduced in 1965 as an improved version of its predecessor, the "M-51", for the American armed forces. It remains true to its predecessor and features the characteristic "fishtail" and the characteristic wide silhouette.

The advantageous differences lie primarily in the choice of material. A thick satin fabric was used for the "M-51", while the "M-65" parka was made from a light and robust Oxford fabric made of cotton and nylon. In addition to its low weight, this material had the advantage of drying more quickly when wet and when used in wet areas.
