The "M-65 Parka" by Buzz Rickson's was introduced in 1965 as an improved version of its predecessor, the "M-51", for the US armed forces. It has remained true to its predecessor and features the characteristic "fishtail" and the characteristic wide silhouette.

The advantageous differences lie primarily in the choice of materials. The "M-51" used a thick satin fabric, while the "M-65" parka was made from a lightweight and durable Oxford fabric of cotton and nylon. Besides its low weight, this material had the advantage of drying faster in wet conditions and during deployments in wetlands.
