The "Cat Head Jacket" by TCB reconstructs an American Chore Coat from the 1930s, specifically a vintage Duck Head model. TCB disassembled an original piece and examined it in detail – from cut and construction to the yarn structure, color, and dyeing of the denim used. The jacket is manufactured in Kojima, Japan.
For the fabric, TCB developed its own 4-yarn construction. In the warp, a smooth 8-count yarn and a short 9-count slub yarn alternate in a 1:1 ratio. In the weft, a naturally irregular yarn and a nep yarn, both 12-count, are also used in a 1:1 ratio. The warp is rope-dyed in indigo, while the weft is reactive-dyed gray. TCB thus aligns with historical workwear fabrics, where a gray weft visually darkened the fabric and made dirt less noticeable.
The fabric is processed unsanforized, without anti-twist treatment, and without singeing. This precisely preserves the natural nep structure and the slightly uneven surface of the fabric.
A special construction detail is located at the collar stand: The visible chain stitch seam is sewn from the back with a specially used Union Special 51800G. TCB thereby adopts a solution from the historical original, which was originally not only aesthetically but also functionally intended – the seam is on the outside so that it does not chafe the neck.
In addition, there are asymmetrically arranged chest pockets, various vintage-inspired buttons, and green-dyed bartacks and buttonholes, which visibly fade over time. The eponymous Cat Head motif picks up on the animalistic branding of the historical Duck Head piece.
