Der „Clusaz“ von Paraboot ist ursprünglich als technischer Bergschuh konzipiert und wurde von den Bergwanderungen der 1960er- und 1980er-Jahre inspiriert. Heute interpretiert Paraboot den legendären Bergschuh als niedrig geschnittene Version für den urbanen Alltag. Die klassische Leistenform mit abgerundeter Zehenpartie bewahrt dabei die charakteristische Silhouette des Vorbilds.
Paraboots Geschichte beginnt in Izeaux im Département Isère. Rémy Richard startete dort 1908 mit der Schuhfertigung. Auf einer Reise in die USA entdeckte er 1926 Gummistiefel und Überschuhe, die ihn zur Entwicklung eigener Gummisohlen für Lederschuhe inspirierten. 1927 ließ er den Namen Paraboot eintragen – eine Verbindung aus Pará, der brasilianischen Region, aus der der für die Sohlen verwendete Kautschuk kam, und „Boot“.
Die Herstellung der Gummisohlen gehört bis heute zur eigenen Fertigung von Paraboot. In Saint-Jean-de-Moirans in der Isère werden die Sohlen aus Naturkautschuk selbst gefertigt und vulkanisiert. Beim Clusaz verbindet Paraboot die markante Gummisohle mit einer Norwegischen Naht. Das Lederfutter und die robuste Konstruktion machen den Schuh zu einem direkten Verwandten der ursprünglichen Bergschuhe, während die niedrige Form ihn alltagstauglich macht.
