The outer fabric is a waxed cotton in loden, a muted shade of green. The wax impregnation makes the fabric wind- and water-repellent. Over time, lighter creases and areas of wear appear at the elbows, pocket edges, and collar where the wax is gradually rubbed away. This creates a patina that reflects the wearer's movements.

If the protective effect diminishes, the fabric can be re-waxed. It should be cleaned with a brush or a damp cloth, not in the machine.
