The "Deck Jacket Halftex Modify" by Nigel Cabourn is based on US Navy deck jackets, which were designed to protect crews on deck from wind and cold. The metal clip hooks on the front and the large flap pockets are derived from this original model.
The jacket is constructed from two different fabrics. The upper part consists of Halftex, a proprietary fabric developed by the brand: 100% nylon, but woven from hollow yarn. This gives the fabric a dry, cotton-like feel while weighing only about half as much as cotton. The lower part features a dimensionally stable polyester fabric. The jacket is lined with polyester.
The hood and hem can be tightened using drawstrings. This keeps cold air out and simultaneously changes the silhouette of the jacket.
