The "DNP-019-IDS 16 oz. Double Nep Relaxed Tapered Indigo x Sumi" from Pure Blue Japan is deliberately cut wide in the seat and thigh, tapering towards the hem.

The fabric is a 16oz selvedge denim in a double-nep construction – both warp and weft are spun from nep yarn, whose irregular slubs give the fabric a rough, handmade character.

The warp threads are indigo-dyed, while the weft threads are dyed with Sumi, a traditional ink based on natural charcoal. Compared to denim with a white weft, this gives the blue a deeper hue and the overall tone a smokier, more muted appearance.
