The "SD-4101 GL3 1st Type" by STUDIO D'ARTISAN is a denim jacket in the Type I cut, the earliest form of the denim jacket from the era when it was still purely workwear.
The denim is woven on the GL3, a loom built by Toyoda Automatic Loom Works about half a century ago, which counts among the early Japanese power looms. Spare parts are no longer produced, so maintenance is carried out using parts from decommissioned machines of the same type. The GL3 produces only about five meters of fabric per hour, but in return, it weaves a denim with the rugged character of older work fabrics.
For the 15 oz selvedge denim, STUDIO D'ARTISAN has developed its own formula: yarn structure, yarn thickness, color depth, and thread density are all calibrated to the GL3. The unevenly spun yarn is rope-dyed in indigo, leaving the core light. With wear, this first becomes apparent at the edges, seams, pocket flap, and cuffs; the uneven yarn structure creates a vertically streaked fading effect.
