The "Hemp Thick Pile Crew Socks" by Anonymous Ism are made with 50% hemp fiber – a material that is more robust than cotton and becomes softer, rather than thinner, over time. They are knitted on low-gauge circular knitting machines from the 1970s, for which spare parts are now hard to find in Japan; their coarser needle gauge results in a firmer, grippier stitch structure than would be possible with today's common, finer-gauge machines.

The "Thick Pile" construction, from which the socks take their name, refers to a terry loop knit where additional loops are knitted into the inside of the foot section, creating a thicker, cushioning layer. The hemp content naturally contributes to odor inhibition, cotton softens the stiffness typical of hemp fiber, and nylon and elastane ensure shape retention.
