The Iron Heart "IHJ-123-OD Work Jacket" is crafted from 14oz broken twill selvedge denim, which is first traditionally rope-dyed in indigo and then overdyed in black. This combination creates an unusually deep, almost oily color effect – almost black when new, with the indigo-blue undertones becoming more apparent and developing a lively, multi-layered patina with increasing wear.

The underlying broken twill construction dates back to a development by Wrangler in 1964. The regular alternation of right-hand and left-hand twill creates a zigzag weave structure that compensates for the typical twisting of the fabric in denim. The result is a dense, stable fabric with a smooth drape and a relatively smooth surface, which particularly highlights the depth of the overdye.
