IHSH-409-IB 19oz Selvedge Denim CPO Shirt Indigo/Black

The "IHSH-409-IB 19 oz. Selvedge Denim CPO Shirt Indigo/Black" from IRON HEART revives a cut introduced by the US Navy in the 1930s for its Chief Petty Officers – initially in wool flannel with one, later two, chest pockets. After the war, the shirt made its way into civilian wardrobes via Army-Navy surplus stores, before Iron Heart now reinterprets it in heavy Japanese denim.

The 19 oz Japanese Selvedge Denim is woven from a rope-dyed indigo warp and a sulfur-dyed black weft yarn. The result is a very dark, almost black look: In rope-dyeing, only the outer fiber layer absorbs the color, the core remains light – this causes the fabric to fade with clear contrast at creases, seam edges, and heavily stressed areas, while the main surface remains dark.
