IHV-02-BLK 12 oz. Wabash/Duck Work Vest Black/Black

The "IHV-02-BLK 12oz Wabash/Duck Work Vest - Black/Black" from IRON HEART is made from Wabash, a work fabric that dates back to the early 1800s and was primarily used as a uniform fabric for American railroad workers. The dotted pattern was originally created either by printing the undyed warp with a resist before dyeing, or - as here - by subsequently bleaching the dots using discharge printing on already dyed fabric.

The 12oz heavy Wabash is woven from sulfur-black-dyed, rope-dyed warp and weft yarns in a twill weave and forms the outside of the vest; on the inside is a cotton duck canvas, which gives the piece stability. Because both yarns are rope-dyed, the color wears off at friction points, and the bleached dots themselves visibly change over time - thus, the fabric develops an increasingly irregular, individual course over the wearing period.
