The "IHV-02-BLK 12oz Wabash/Duck Work Vest - Black/Black" by IRON HEART uses Wabash, a work fabric dating back to the early 1800s, primarily used as uniform material by US railroad workers. The dotted pattern was originally created either by printing the undyed warp with a starch resist before dyeing, or—as here—by subsequently bleaching the dots through discharge printing on already dyed fabric.
The 12oz Wabash is woven from sulfur-black dyed, rope-dyed warp and weft yarns in a twill weave and forms the outside of the vest; on the inside is a cotton duck canvas, which gives the piece its structure. Because both yarns are rope-dyed, the color will wear off at friction points, and the bleached dots themselves will visibly change over time—thus, the fabric develops an increasingly irregular, individual character over its wearing period.
