Sun Surf's "SS39611 S/S Rayon Hawaiian Shirt – Incarnation of God" is based on an early KIHI KIHI design from the late 1940s.
The focus is on the Tiki – a representation of divine powers in Polynesian culture. One of the first motifs of its kind on Aloha shirts, still clearly structured and closer to the original symbolism than later, more decorative implementations.
The fabric is filament rayon, as was often used in the early phase of Aloha shirts. Smooth, with a slight sheen and a flowing drape that differs significantly from cotton.
The printing process used is discharge printing. This chemically removes the base color of the fabric and then re-dyes it. This means the motif is not on the surface but is part of the material. The transitions appear softer, the colors gain depth, and the feel remains unchanged.
The all-over pattern is densely arranged but clearly legible – typical of early "Chop Suey"-like layouts where various elements are combined into a single surface.
