The "In'ei Loafer" by Rolling Dub Trio launches the H-series, inspired by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki's essay "In'ei Raisan" ("In Praise of Shadows," 1933): Tanizaki's idea of beauty in darkness is made visible in the deep, almost transparent blackness of the leather and the restrained lines of the upper.

The upper is made from calf leather sourced from the Netherlands and tanned in Japan as box calf—a chrome tanning process that gives the leather its fine, closed, and slightly grained surface. This tanning method was traditionally reserved for classic men's shoes and contrasts with more open-pored, vegetable-tanned leathers.

Unlike most penny loafers, which are made with a hand-stitched moccasin construction, the In'ei is built on the Munson last, developed for military boots, and Goodyear-welted.
