John Lofgren's "LK-019 Military Desert Boots Japanese Suede Brown" are based on a boot style that originated in Cairo's bazaars during World War II: British and South African soldiers had suede boots with crepe rubber soles made there, which were better suited to the desert climate than the usual army footwear. After the war, the silhouette continued in civilian fashion, in the USA from the 1950s, and in Great Britain, especially among the mods of the 1960s and 1970s.

For this model, John Lofgren uses brown Japanese suede with a Japanese leather lining. Suede shows signs of wear differently than smooth leather: It darkens at edges and creases over time and develops an evenly duller, slightly roughened surface instead of a glossy patina.

In this model, the insole is not glued in afterwards but is sewn directly to the upper leather, lining, and midsole as part of the stitch-down construction – a step that many desert boots replace with a glued insole for cost reasons.
