MA-1 VF 59 Vintage Fit Bomber Minimalist Edition Olive

The "MA-1 VF 59 Jacket" builds on the classic MA-1 Flight Jacket, which was developed in the late 1950s for US Air Force pilots. With the transition to the jet era, there was a need for lighter, more agile, and more compact jackets, as the previous B-series models, especially the B-15, were increasingly impractical for tighter cockpits and new equipment. In 1959, the MA-1 was developed – with a knitted collar, clean silhouette, and materials that met the demands of modern jets.

From the cockpits, the MA-1 found its way into the cities. Soldiers continued to wear the jacket in their daily lives after service, subcultures adopted it in the 1960s and 1970s, followed later by musicians, artists, and creatives.

The VF 59 takes up this heritage and interprets it in a contemporary way. The acronym VF stands for the slimmer, body-hugging fit, and the number 59 refers to the year of the original MA-1. Thus, the jacket retains the characteristic bomber shape but appears clearer and more modern.

The iconic orange lining provides a striking contrast and goes back to a safety feature from military history: pilots could reverse the jacket in an emergency to be more visible to rescue teams.

At our request, Alpha Industries has produced a "Minimalist Edition" for us. The usual external details such as flags on the sleeve pocket, the "Remove Before Flight" tag, or leather pullers on the zipper were deliberately omitted. This creates a clean, reduced version of the MA-1, where the cut, material, and heritage are the focus.
