The "Renzo Loose Cord" by Tela Genova is the corduroy version of the Renzo, a chino model with a wide, straight-leg cut. The chino itself originated in the 19th century as a lightweight uniform pant for Western colonial armies and was also worn by civilians through the US Army; its generous silhouette lives on in the Renzo, while the chino as a whole developed an increasingly slimmer fit from the mid-20th century onwards.
Tela Genova, managed by Casitalia SRL, was founded in 1982 and taken over in 2010 by the Caucci family, who have since guided the house towards denim craftsmanship and workwear.
Instead of the usual twill, the Renzo uses cotton corduroy. Additional weft threads are woven into the base fabric and then cut open, creating the characteristic longitudinal ribs, or wales. With wear, the pile flattens slightly at the knees and seat, and these areas visibly lighten – a sign of aging unique to genuine corduroy. The loose leg cut remains the most striking deviation compared to the brand's narrower chino cuts.
