The SD-1001EW "GL3" jeans from STUDIO D'ARTISAN are based on a classic Regular Straight fit and use the distinctive GL3 Selvedge Denim in an unbleached ecru finish.

The fabric is woven on the Toyota GL3 Shuttle Loom – one of Japan's earliest mechanical looms. These machines have been out of production for decades, spare parts no longer exist, meaning maintenance is only possible using components from decommissioned units. Operation is accordingly complex and slow, with a production output of only around 5 meters of denim per hour. These very limitations shape the character of the fabric: irregular, rough, and with a clearly visible slub structure.

15oz GL3 Slubby Selvedge Denim made from 100% cotton is used. The ecru version completely omits indigo, showcasing the natural color of the cotton fiber. This highlights the yarn structure and weave pattern, developing its own patina with wear.

Note: The jeans run about two sizes smaller – W34 therefore corresponds to a regular W32.
