The Service Boot® is Viberg's cornerstone. Edwin Viberg set out in the 1930s to develop what he considered to be the most stable and well-crafted boot for farm and prairie workers. In 2007, the 310 last was developed by combining an old British climbing boot with a mid-century work boot. The iconic silhouette is defined by the so-called "Sprung Toe", which was developed in the early 1900s to create a rocking motion that made stiff-soled industrial boots more comfortable to walk in.
Kudu leather from C.F. Stead in England is used. Kudu comes from free-ranging African antelope and is processed using an elaborate tanning process that preserves the material's natural, distinctive grain. The surface shows a vibrant, irregular structure with fine markings, shading, and natural growth characteristics of the animal. The combination of vegetable and mineral tanning components results in a leather with high tear resistance and a soft, almost waxy feel.
When worn, Kudu reacts very directly: pressure marks, scratches, and color nuances develop quickly and lead to a distinct, individual patina. Each use visibly changes the surface and enhances the depth of the dark brown tone.
