The "Slouchy Cardigan - Wool Knit, Fig" by Dehen 1920 traces its roots back to the cardigans the company used to outfit high school and college athletes starting in 1920 in Portland, Oregon. For this model, Dehen has deliberately relaxed the rigid silhouette of these early athletic jackets, while also drawing inspiration from the Pacific Northwest grunge era of the 1990s. The body is cut slightly shorter, the shoulder is dropped, and the cuffs and hem are left open.

The cardigan is knitted in Dehen’s own knitting mill in Portland from 100% worsted wool in an exceptionally heavy four-end jersey. Four strands of yarn run through every stitch, creating a dense, shape-retaining knit. Worsted wool is spun from long, parallel-combed fibers. This makes the yarn smoother and less prone to pilling than woolen yarn. With wear, the knit becomes softer and increasingly conforms to the body.
