The "Tiger Camouflage Civilian Trousers / John Wayne" from The Real McCoy's are based on early Tiger-Stripe patterns from South Vietnam in the 1960s. Developed for local use, various versions quickly emerged due to local manufacturing and different interpretations of the camouflage pattern.

The name "John Wayne" became established through the pop culture of that era. This early pattern was notably seen in the film The Green Berets (1968) starring John Wayne, which used uniforms based on original Tiger Stripe patterns. This association has become a designation in the collector and repro scene for this early, less standardized version.

Characteristic is the more open, restless stripe pattern compared to later, more standardized versions.
