Type A-1 “A.C. ORDER No.31-800P” Seal Brown

The "Lot. BR80649 Type A-1 'A.C. ORDER No. 31-800P'" by BUZZ RICKSON'S is a reproduction of the Type A-1, which was introduced in 1927 and produced as a summer flight jacket until it was replaced by the A-2 in 1931. Since zippers were not yet suitable for everyday use at that time, the front was closed with buttons instead. Originally, the A-1 was made of sheepskin—lightweight and comfortable to move in, but significantly less durable than horsehide or cowhide. Surviving originals are correspondingly rare.

This reproduction uses horsehide (Bronco Hide) instead for greater durability. The leather for this season is completely vegetable-tanned and additionally provided with a pigment coating for better water protection. When new, the surface appears opaque and smooth; over time, the coating rubs off, and the leather develops a rougher, more robust appearance.

The jacket is lined with 100% cotton broadcloth. The buttons are made of ivory nut, a plant-based material that was used at the time as a substitute for real ivory in uniform buttons.
