The "Waffle Knit Cap" from Jackman uses significantly thicker cotton yarn than is usual for ordinary waffle knit.
As thermal underwear, waffle knit became known primarily through the US military: The "Undershirt, Extreme Cold Weather" of the 1960s and 70s relied on precisely this structure to provide soldiers with additional warmth under their other clothing – the raised squares trap air and provide insulation.
Thanks to the thickened yarn and specially adapted knitting machines, the result from Jackman is significantly heavier and more voluminous than an ordinary waffle knit – a heavyweight knit with a correspondingly dense, soft feel.
Compared to the previous model JM6605, this version is shorter.
