The "Waffle Midneck" by Jackman uses significantly thicker cotton yarn than is common for regular waffle knits.
Waffle knit became widely known as a thermal undershirt, primarily through the US military: The "Undershirt, Extreme Cold Weather" of the 1960s and 70s utilized precisely this structure to provide soldiers with additional warmth under their other clothing – the raised squares trap air and act as insulation.
Due to the thickened yarn and specially adapted knitting machines, the result from Jackman is significantly heavier and more voluminous than a regular waffle knit – a heavyweight knit with a correspondingly dense, soft feel.
Compared to the previous model JM7200, this Midneck is 6cm wider in the torso and 2cm longer.
