The "Wilkes Jeans" from Freenote Cloth combine classic cowboy charm with a modern silhouette. With their high waist, generous thigh width, and subtle taper at the leg opening, they offer a perfect fit that also leaves enough room to comfortably wear boots underneath.
The fabric is a 14.25oz broken twill denim from the Yoshiwa Mill, which produces in the Bingo region of Japan's denim belt between Okayama and Hiroshima and is primarily known for indigo rope dyeing. Broken twill was introduced in the 1960s by Wrangler/Blue Bell to solve a well-known problem with classic twill fabrics: because the diagonally running threads in ordinary twill all pull in one direction, the pant leg twists spirally around the leg after washing. In broken twill, the weaving direction alternates at regular intervals, canceling out the twist and keeping the seam straight.
