The Second World War brought advances in aircraft technology and flight clothing. A lightweight flight jacket called the L-2 was developed using nylon. The modified version, the L-2B, was introduced in 1955 after the Korean War and remained in use until the 1970s.
The idea for an all-black collection was inspired by Buzz Rickson's fictional black MA-1 jacket, which the science fiction author designed for his protagonist in his book "Pattern Recognition". Buzz Rickson's brought the never-before-seen jacket to life and thus laid the foundation for the unique militaria collaboration "Type Black".
